🔋⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY ALERT: Lithium-ion Battery Fire Risk ⚠️🔋

Did you know that lithium-ion batteries are the fastest growing fire risk in NSW? From your phone and laptop to e-bikes and e-scooters - these batteries power our daily lives but can be dangerous if not handled properly.

Why do they catch fire? 🔥

  • Overcharging or using non-compliant chargers
  • Overheating or extreme temperatures
  • Physical damage (dropping, crushing, piercing)
  • Manufacturing defects
  • Short-circuiting or system faults

When lithium-ion batteries fail, they can undergo "thermal runaway" - causing violent bursting, toxic gas release, and intense fires that are difficult to extinguish.

Stay safe by: ✅ Using original or certified chargers only ✅ Avoiding overcharging your devices ✅ Storing batteries in cool, dry places ✅ Inspecting devices for damage regularly ✅ Never charging devices unattended

Fire and Rescue NSW is actively researching these risks to keep our community safe. When buying battery-powered products, always put safety first!
