How should I store and maintain EV Fire Equipment?
Storage - Lithium-Ion Fire Extinguishers
- Location: Store lithium-ion fire extinguishers in a visible, easily
accessible location. Avoid obstructing them with furniture or other
items. - Temperature: Keep extinguishers in a temperature-controlled
environment (avoid extreme heat or cold). Ideal temperatures are
between 32°F (0°C) and 120°F (49°C). Extreme temperatures can
affect the pressure gauge and performance. - Mounting: Mount fire extinguishers securely on the wall or place them
in designated brackets as per AS2444. - Ensure the handle and nozzle are pointing outward for easy access in
an emergency. - Visibility: Ensure that the extinguisher is clearly visible with
appropriate signage to indicate its location as per AS2444. - Avoid Exposure to Moisture: Store the extinguisher in a dry area to
avoid corrosion, especially for metal-bodied extinguishers.
Maintenance - Lithium-Ion Fire Extinguishers
- Regular Inspections: Check the pressure gauge regularly to ensure it's within the operational range (green zone). Inspect the extinguisher for any damage, rust, or leaks.
- Seal and Pin: Ensure the safety pin is in place and the seal is intact. If the seal is broken, replace the extinguisher or service it immediately.
- Condition: Look for any dents, rust, or physical damage that may affect its functionality. If damaged, replace the extinguisher.
- Expiration: Check the expiration date and replace the extinguisher when it expires, even if it hasn’t been used.
- Professional Servicing: Have the extinguisher professionally serviced and inspected at least once a year.
Storage - Lithium-Ion Fire Blankets
- Location: Store fire blankets in an easily accessible location near potential fire hazards, such as kitchens or workshops. They should be mounted in a visible and clear location for quick access in an
emergency. - Wall Mounting: Most fire blankets come with a mounting case or bracket. Install it securely on the wall, making sure the blanket can be quickly removed when needed.
- Avoid Obstruction: Ensure the blanket is not covered by other items or stored in a place where it can be accidentally damaged or obstructed.
Maintenance - Lithium-Ion Fire Blankets
- Regular Inspections: Inspect the blanket regularly for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. If damaged, replace it immediately.
- Cleanliness: Lithium-Ion Fire blankets should be kept clean and free from dirt, debris, and any contaminants that could affect their performance. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning.
- Condition Check: Ensure the blanket is not folded incorrectly or stored in a way that could damage its fibers. The blanket should always be in a state where it can be deployed immediately in an emergency.
- After Use: If a fire blanket has been used, replace it with a new one as they are designed for single-use.
