Damaged batteries are a serious fire risk and should NEVER go in regular bins! Fires have occurred in garbage trucks and waste facilities due to improper disposal.
šØ Signs your battery/device is damaged:
Swelling, bulging, or leaking
Cracks, dents, or punctures
Been in fire or overheated
Water damage or submersion
Emitting smoke or vapours
ā
DO:
Wear protective gear when handling
Keep fire-damaged batteries outside, 3m from structures
Place small damaged batteries in water to cool
Take non-overheated damaged batteries to Community Recycling Centres in plastic bags
Dry water-damaged batteries and wipe terminals
ā DON'T:
Use or charge damaged batteries
Put in household waste/recycling bins
Take to regular battery recycling points
Damaged batteries can contain toxic chemicals that harm our environment and water supplies. Handle with care and dispose properly!
